[Note: the minutes this month were recorded by Tim N9LF as the treasurer
has returned once again to Las Vegas - this time, without the club checkbook
- so he says.]
President Kevin, WN9O, called the meeting to order at 20:25.
There was no formal treasurers report, but it was rumored that approximately
$400 remains after paying the insurance premium. It was noted that the
equipment insurance bill was slightly lower this period as some DX cluster
equipment that is no longer used was taken off the policy.
The Minutes from the May meeting were approved as previously published.
Old Business:
1. We have received 49 Indiana QSO Party logs. We discussed the form of the
main awards. The suggestion of a plaque with a corncob seemed to be the most
popular. Also discussed were ideas for certificates. At this point, it seems
reasonable to issue a certificate to everyone who submitted a log. Mel KJ9C
will check trophy shops in Indy, and Tim N9LF will check around Lafayette.
2. Jim Sellars K9ZBM takes office as the Section Manager, effective July 1.
He has indicated that he would be willing to nominate one of our members as
a DXCC card checker, but would prefer that we “qualify” on our own. By
general acclamation, we nominated Mike N9NS to become our checker (that will
teach him to miss two meetings in a row!).
3. David N9KT brought us up to date on a possible special event station at
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Everything is off for 2002, but he is still
working toward 2003. David N9KT and Mike N9NS have spoken about getting
additional club calls, and further work awaits the return of Mike “Hooters”
Goode.
4. We spent a few minutes reviewing the Dayton Hamvention.
5. The discussion then turned to Field Day plans. Several points were made:
- We still need operators.
- No word about a crane has been received from Fred K9VV.
- Dave W9ZRX reviewed some setup details and plans for the GOTA station.
- We need people to work setup on Friday afternoon (several regulars
will not be available).
- Mike N9NS and Kevin WN9O are handling the publicity.
- Mel KJ9C has arranged for an “official” visit.
New Business:
1. Steve W9TN discussed the many recent problems with QSL.NET and our domain
name registration (hdxcc.org). He proposed changing ISPs and using a
non-directed domain registration. WinTek will provide all required services
for a flat $100 per year fee (that is $65 more than we currently spend). A
discussion ensued and it was suggested that we speak with the treasurer to
evaluate what impact that would have on our cash reserves. Mike, WA9PIE,
currently holds our domain registration. As a result, no other club members
or officers can make administrative changes when needed. We agreed to pursue
changing this so that we can properly access our registration records as
needed.
2. WRTC 2002 is coming up in July (July 13-14, 2002). Pat Barkey, N9RV will
be participating and has requested that “Black Hole” hams try to participate
in the contest.
3. Kid’s Day is this weekend.
4. We received two tickets to the Greentown hamfest, scheduled for August
11. They were given away to those who plan to attend.
5. Mel KJ9C donated some “spare” trophy parts.
DX AWARD: David N9KT for 40 countries.
CONTEST AWARD: Don W9IU for 1723 QSOs in the WPX (CW).
Next Meeting is scheduled for July 11, 2002 at the usual place and time.
The meeting adjourned at 21:25. |
