The January 2002 meeting was held at the Yorkshire Rose Pub, Carmel, IN. Members arrived about 6:30 PM for dinner and socializing. The meeting was called to order by President WN9O at 8:30. The December minutes were read and approved. N9NS gave the treasurer report indicating the club has $434.78. Recent expenses were $8.25 sent to the W9 QSL bureau and $3.73 in postage to mail QSL cards. A new Buckmaster Hamcall CD will be ordered for the KJ9D packetcluster node at a cost of $50.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. The Indiana QSO party rules as posted on our message board were discussed. A motion was made to make the operating times 8:00 AM to Midnight, it did not pass. N9LF discussed the rules he proposes VS California and Florida QSO party rules. To make the Indiana contest easier for logging programs a station on a county line will count as 2 QSOs. Some minor changes were made to what Tim had proposed. It was then moved and seconded to accepted Tim’s rules. The motioned passed. Tim will post the rules to our Yahoo group and members can critique.

2. N9KT reported he could not get in touch with his contact at the Motor Speedway to discuss a special event station. He has left voicemail messages and hopes to meet with them this week.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. The South Bend Hamfest is this weekend, N9NS had two complementary tickets which he passed to members who were going to attend.

2. Mike/WA9PIE has received from a Michigan group information about the Michigan QSO party and asked to put it on our club web page. This was approved and we will ask them to do likewise for the Indiana QSO Party.

3. It was mentioned that QST would discontinue longer publishing contest results. This is one of the things being considered to reduce the size/cost of publishing the magazine. Comments can be sent to our director at: W9GIG@ARRL.NET. The results will be on the ARRL web page.

4. Field Day plans were discussed. Mike/WA9PIE suggested we should search for a public area to operate from to gain the 100 extra bonus points. Last year the club earned 1100 of a possible 1400 bonus points. The points missed were: 1) Operating from a public place. 2) Handling 10 formal messages. 3) Site visit by a public official. N9NS mentioned parks and the like were often not too friendly to such an activity due to security and insurance concerns. Mike will search for a suitable place.

DX AWARD: Awarded to N9KT for working 43 countries QRP in the ARRL 10-meter contest.

CONTEST AWARD: Awarded to K9WX for 500 QSOs in the ARRL 10-meter contest.

The next meeting will be on Thursday February 7th at the Yorkshire Rose Pub. This is a week earlier than normal due to the 14th being Valentine’s Day.

There being no more business the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 PM.
